RICE LAKE — Thirteen logging companies and professionals from northern Minnesota have partnered in the annual, nationwide Log a Load for Kids event, with the proceeds going to children’s hospitals and the Children’s Miracle Network.

Roughly 150 cords of timber were harvested from a 10-acre plot in Rice Lake — estimated to raise $20,000 for Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare to fund treatment, education and research. Its clinics are located in Duluth, Baxter, Bemidji, Alexandria, St. Cloud, Maple Grove, St. Paul, Willmar, Burnsville and Mankato.

According to a news release, the amount will be combined with other donations and money raised through a golf tournament for a total gift to Gillette Children's that averages $30,000-$40,000 each year.
