This report answers frequently asked questions about Minnesota’s forest resources, such as current conditions and trends in forest resources and forest resource industrial use. It uses the most recent version of multiple survey data sets and is compiled annually by the Forest Biometrician and Utilization and Marketing Program staff of the Minnesota DNR’s Forestry Division. Take a look.

Pittack Logging named 2024 Minnesota logger of the year

Pittack Logging of Bovey, Minnesota has been named the 2024 Minnesota Logger of the Year by the Minnesota Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) Implementation Committee (MN SIC). Find out more. 

Golden, Collins introduce bipartisan legislation to support loggers harmed by natural disasters

Congressman Jared Golden and Senator Susan Collins introduced the bicameral, bipartisan Loggers Economic Assistance and Relief Act, which would establish a new U.S. Department of Agriculture program to support loggers who have lost income due to natural disasters. Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) is the lead co-sponsor in the House. Read on in the press release. 

US Forest Service announces wood innovations grant recipients

On May 14, the USDA’s Forest Service awarded nearly $74 million to 171 projects through two grant programs. Recipients include 3 projects from Minnesota: Hill Wood Products Wood Pellet Expansion ($300,000), MN North College – Vermillion Campus Biomass System Restoration Project ($213,279), and Molina Realtors – Mixed Use Building Prototype Design ($300,000). Learn more.

American Loggers Council Signs historic memorandum of understanding with the USDA Forest Service

The American Loggers Council, the largest national timber industry association in the U.S., has entered into an historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with USDA Forest Service. This MOU formalizes future collaboration and recognizes common areas of mutual benefit, such as job creation and healthier forests. Read the press release.
